What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a collagen-stimulating injectable made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable material used safely in medicine for decades. It sits within the regenerative biostimulator category, alongside polynucleotides and Sunekos®. Unlike dermal fillers, which add immediate volume, Sculptra® works at a deeper biological level to rebuild structural collagen, so results develop gradually.
How does Sculptra® work?
As we age, natural collagen and elastin production slows, leading to thinner skin, reduced skin elasticity, fine lines and loss of firmness. By our mid-thirties, most of us produce significantly less collagen than in our twenties.
Injected into the deeper layers of the skin, the PLLA in Sculptra® activates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing new collagen. This response, known as dermal biogenesis, rebuilds the supportive network that gives skin its structure. The PLLA is then naturally absorbed, leaving behind your own newly formed collagen. Because the effect is gradual, results build progressively and last a considerable time once a full course is complete.
How is Sculptra® different from fillers and skin boosters?
All are injectable treatments, but they work differently. Dermal fillers, such as cheek filler or tear trough filler, add immediate facial volume and reshape specific areas. Sculptra® instead stimulates your body to produce its own collagen, gradually restoring firmness, skin elasticity and definition while maintaining your natural facial contours.
For concerns such as eye bags or deep hollowing, a dermal filler may be more suitable, and Dr Hadeel Nimaa will advise which approach fits your goals. Skin boosters, by comparison, mainly hydrate the skin using stabilised hyaluronic acid, while Sculptra® goes further by rebuilding the structural collagen network for longer-lasting results. Many patients benefit from a tailored combination.

What to expect from your treatment
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation and skin analysis with Dr Hadeel Nimaa, where your goals are reviewed, your suitability confirmed and a personalised treatment plan created.
On the day, a topical numbing cream is applied for comfort and the Sculptra® solution is injected into precise points in the deeper layers of the skin using a cannula. Most appointments take 30 to 45 minutes, and Dr Nimaa will guide you through every step of the treatment process. For optimal results, treatment is delivered as a course of three sessions, four to six weeks apart, to allow collagen to develop. Detailed aftercare guidance is provided afterwards.
Sculptra® results and longevity
Because Sculptra® stimulates your own collagen, results develop gradually and continue to improve over several months. After the recommended course of three treatments, results generally last up to 25 months, making it one of the longer-lasting regenerative injectables available.
To preserve results, we recommend a single-session top-up once a year. Individual longevity varies with age, skin condition and lifestyle.
