What to Expect at Your First Botox Appointment in Surrey

Booking your first Botox appointment can feel like a big step. Most people arrive with a mix of curiosity and nerves, unsure how much it’ll hurt, whether they’ll look natural, or what actually happens once they’re in the chair. The good news is that Botox in Surrey doesn’t have to be daunting: Botox treatment, also known as botulinum toxin, is one of the quickest and most straightforward aesthetic treatments, and in experienced hands it’s very comfortable. At HAVA Aesthetics in Esher, Surrey, every treatment is doctor-led by Dr Hadeel Nimaa, and first-timers are looked after every step of the way.

Here’s exactly what to expect from your treatment journey, from booking to results.

Before your appointment

A little preparation helps your treatment go smoothly and reduces the chance of bruising. In the day or two beforehand, it’s generally sensible to:

  • Avoid alcohol for around 24 hours, as it can thin the blood and increase bruising.
  • Skip strenuous exercise on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements where safe to do so, such as ibuprofen, fish oil and vitamin E, but only if your GP is happy for you to pause them.
  • Come with clean skin if possible, and avoid heavy make-up on the treatment areas.

Just as importantly, come with a clear idea of what’s bothering you. Whether it’s frown lines (the vertical lines between your brows), forehead wrinkles or crow’s feet, being able to describe the facial wrinkles you’d like to soften helps your practitioner tailor the treatment to you. These are known as dynamic wrinkles because they form through repeated muscle movement over the years.

The consultation comes first

Your first appointment always begins with a proper, detailed consultation, not an immediate injection. This is one of the most important parts of the process and a key reason to choose a doctor-led clinic.

Dr Hadeel Nimaa will take a full medical history to check that treatment is safe and suitable for you, including any medications, allergies or medical conditions, because patient safety always comes first. She’ll then ask about your concerns and individual goals, and assess your face at rest and in movement, watching how your facial muscles create the lines you want to treat. From there, she’ll build a treatment plan, talking you through what’s realistic, which areas would benefit, and how natural or noticeable the result will be.

This Botox consultation is also your chance to ask questions. Good practitioners welcome them, and no question is too small. If, after the consultation, treatment isn’t right for you or isn’t needed yet, you’ll be told honestly.

The treatment itself

If you decide to go ahead, the treatment is usually very quick, often taking just 10 to 15 minutes. Here’s roughly how it works:

  • The treatment areas are cleaned thoroughly.
  • Your practitioner may ask you to frown, raise your eyebrows or squint, so she can mark the precise injection points based on how your facial muscles move.
  • A very fine needle is used to deliver small Botox injections into the targeted muscles, gently reducing their muscle activity.
  • The injections take only seconds each, and the whole process is over before most people expect.

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable it is. The needle is tiny, and any sensation is usually described as a brief, mild sting or pinch rather than pain. Numbing cream isn’t normally needed, though it can be used if you’re particularly anxious.

Straight after your appointment

One of the great advantages of these injectable treatments is that there’s essentially no recovery time. You can drive yourself home and return to most of your day right away.

You may have some small red marks or tiny bumps at the injection sites, a little like nettle rash, but these typically settle within 15 to 30 minutes. Minor bruising is possible but not guaranteed, and serious side effects are rare. Your practitioner will give you clear aftercare instructions, which usually include staying upright for a few hours, avoiding rubbing or massaging the area, skipping strenuous exercise, heat and alcohol for the rest of the day, and not lying face down for a while.

When you’ll see results

Unlike dermal fillers, Botox doesn’t work instantly, and this catches a lot of first-timers out. You won’t walk out with a smoother forehead straight away. Most people begin to notice changes within a few days, with the full effect developing over about two weeks as the treated muscles gradually relax, softening the facial movement that drives wrinkle formation while keeping your natural expression and giving natural-looking results.

Because of this, a review is often arranged around two weeks after your first treatment. This lets Dr Hadeel Nimaa check your results, answer any questions, and add a small top-up if any area needs a little more. From there, results typically last a few months before a maintenance appointment is due, as covered in our guide to how long Botox lasts.

Why a doctor-led clinic matters

Botox is a prescription medicine, and results depend heavily on the skill and anatomical knowledge of the person injecting it. A trained medical professional understands facial anatomy in detail, which means safer treatment, better patient safety, more natural-looking results and fewer complications, all while preserving your facial expressions. At HAVA Aesthetics, your Botox treatment is carried out by Dr Hadeel Nimaa, with the same focus on natural, balanced results that runs through everything we do.

Frequently asked questions

Does Botox hurt?
Most people find it very tolerable. A fine needle is used and the sensation is usually a brief sting or pinch. Numbing cream can be applied if you’re nervous.

How long does the appointment take?
The treatment itself often takes only 10 to 15 minutes, though your first visit will be longer to allow time for a full consultation.

Can I go back to work afterwards?
Yes. There’s essentially no downtime, so most people return to their normal day straight away, keeping in mind the simple aftercare advice you’ll be given.

When will I see the results?
You’ll usually notice changes within a few days, with the full effect visible at around two weeks once the muscles have relaxed.

Will I look frozen or unnatural?
Not with a considered, doctor-led approach. Treatment is tailored to your muscles and goals so you keep natural expression while softening the lines that bother you.
