What Is Profhilo? Who It Suits and How It Compares

Skin that has lost its bounce does not always look older so much as tired. Make-up sits differently, crepey skin starts to show on the neck, and the face loses the soft glow it used to have, even when there is no obvious line or hollow to point to. Profhilo is one of the skin boosters in Surrey that patients ask about most for exactly this kind of change.

It is also one of the most misunderstood. Profhilo is not a filler, it will not lift a jowl, and it is not the right answer for every skin concern. This guide explains what it actually does, who tends to benefit, why a doctor’s assessment matters, and how it compares with polynucleotides.

How Profhilo Works

Profhilo belongs to a group of injectable treatments made from a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, the same moisture-holding molecule your skin produces naturally and loses steadily with age. It is often described as one of the original injectable moisturisers. Unlike dermal filler, it is not designed to sit in one place and add shape. Once injected, it spreads gently through the tissue, which is why it is described as a bio-remodelling treatment rather than a volumiser.

That spreading action does two things. It delivers deep skin hydration across a wide area, and it triggers collagen stimulation and the skin’s own elastin production. The result is better skin elasticity, smoother skin texture and a more even, radiant skin tone, without any change to your facial features, which is why Profhilo in Surrey appeals to patients who want to look fresher rather than different.

Treatment uses a small number of precise injection sites on each side of the face, so appointments are quick and the product does much of the work once it is in place.

Who Is Profhilo Suitable For?

Profhilo tends to suit patients with ageing skin whose main concern is skin quality rather than structure. Good candidates often notice:

  • Early skin laxity, where the skin feels softer and less firm than it was
  • Dry, dehydrated or dull skin that skincare alone has not improved
  • Fine lines, shallow wrinkles and crepey texture, particularly on the lower face and neck
  • Loss of glow following weight change, stress or sun exposure

It can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and hands, which makes it a popular choice for patients who want the areas around the face to match the improvements in the face itself.

It is less suited to concerns caused by something other than skin quality. Deep folds and lost volume usually respond better to filler, lines caused by muscle movement are treated with anti-wrinkle injections, and more advanced sagging skin may need a surgical opinion. Profhilo can complement these treatments, but it will not replace them.

Why Doctor Screening Matters

Profhilo has an excellent safety profile, but it is still a medical injectable, and the consultation is where suitability is decided. A thorough assessment covers your medical history, any medications or supplements that increase bruising, previous aesthetic treatments, and conditions that could affect how your skin heals.

Some patients will be advised to wait or to avoid treatment altogether. This includes anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone with an active skin infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, and patients with certain autoimmune conditions or known allergies to hyaluronic acid products.

Screening is also about expectations. A doctor can tell you honestly whether Profhilo is likely to make a visible difference to your skin, or whether another treatment would serve you better. That conversation protects both your safety and your investment.

Profhilo vs Polynucleotides

Profhilo and polynucleotides are often grouped together as regenerative skin boosters because both improve skin quality rather than shape. They work in different ways, though, and suit slightly different concerns.

Profhilo is hyaluronic acid based. Its strengths are deep hydration and improving laxity across broad areas such as the cheeks, jawline and neck. Patients often describe the result as plumper, more elastic skin.

Polynucleotides are regenerative injectables made from purified DNA fragments, commonly sourced from salmon. Rather than hydrating, they stimulate fibroblasts, the cells responsible for tissue repair, encouraging cellular renewal within the dermal tissue. They are particularly well suited to thin, delicate skin, which is why they are often chosen for the under-eye region. The periorbital skin there is the thinnest on the face, and polynucleotides are used to strengthen it, soften fine crepey lines and improve the look of dark circles and tired-looking eyes.

As a rough guide, Profhilo tends to suit dehydrated skin and early laxity, while polynucleotides suit fragile, thinning or damaged skin where cellular repair and tissue regeneration are the priority. Many patients benefit from both, used on different areas or planned as part of a longer skin programme. The right combination depends on your skin, which is why it is decided at consultation rather than from a menu.

What to Expect From Treatment

Appointments for skin booster treatment in Surrey take around 30 to 45 minutes, including assessment and numbing cream. Most patients need two to three sessions spaced around four weeks apart, followed by maintenance every six to nine months.

Downtime is minimal. Small raised bumps at the injection points usually settle within a day, and mild swelling or bruising typically resolves within 24 to 72 hours. Hydration often improves within the first week or two, while firmness builds more gradually as collagen production increases. Results typically last around six months.

Profhilo in Esher, Surrey

How well Profhilo works depends on the person assessing your skin as much as the product itself. Choosing the right treatment, the right areas and the right timing all come down to clinical judgement.

At HAVA Aesthetics, Dr Hadeel Nimaa assesses your skin quality, facial structure and medical history together, and suitability, expected results and any limitations are discussed before anything is agreed. She is GMC-registered, Save Face accredited and a member of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine. If your skin has started to feel less firm or less radiant, you can book a consultation to talk through whether Profhilo treatment in Surrey, polynucleotides or a combination is right for you.
